Why we endorsed Gordon
San Jose YIMBY and YIMBY Action support Gordon Chester for City Council District 9 because he understands that San José's affordability crisis comes from not building enough homes, and he wants to fix it. A lifelong D9 resident who has worked for the City for more than a decade in Public Works, Gordon knows how City Hall works and where it gets in the way. He backs responsible growth that adds housing so that young people, working families and seniors can all afford to stay in the neighborhoods they grew up in.
About Gordon Chester
Gordon Chester was born and raised in the Cambrian area of San José. He is a candidate for San José City Council, District 9, in the November 3, 2026 general election. His ballot designation is City of San Jose Infrastructure Engineer. The race is nonpartisan.
