Running for Councilmember, West Hollywood At Large, in West Hollywood, CA
Helen is a TV writer and renter running for office for the first time with no prior professional background in housing policy, which makes the depth of her questionnaire responses all the more notable. Her answer on community opposition introduced the concept of “invisible speakers”: the future residents who can’t speak at a hearing because they don’t yet know they’ll live there. After SCAG added the planned K-Line extension stations in West Hollywood to its map, Helen sent us a detailed addendum making clear where she stands. She supports SB 79 as the law of the land, is open to a TODAP alternative only if it matches or exceeds SB 79’s housing capacity, and insists that no neighborhood, including single-family bastions like West Hollywood West, be exempt from upzoning.
Helen Krieger is a candidate for West Hollywood City Council in the November 3, 2026 general municipal election, listed on the ballot as a screenwriter. A renter and TV writer, she lived in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, where she was named president of her neighborhood association in the Bywater neighborhood and helped turn an under-utilized historic factory into 100% affordable apartments for working artists and musicians.
