Running for Councilmember District 4, Berkeley City Council District 4, in Berkeley, CA
We cheerfully endorse Councilmember Igor Tregub for re-election. We previously offered a secondary endorsement for CM Tregub in the 2024 special election, and since his win he has voted to support housing in several crucial fights, including the version of Berkeley's middle housing ordinance with higher density. He works effectively in a tough district (Downtown) which suffered vacancies and stalled projects in the wake of post-COVID upheaval and has delivered new policies to revitalize these areas. Additionally, his district is a key part of the upcoming Corridor Zoning update that will bring more homes to Berkeley’s commercial centers.
Igor Tregub represents District 4 on the Berkeley City Council, a seat he won in 2024; his current term expires November 30, 2026. Before joining the council he chaired the Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board, Housing Advisory Commission and Commission on Labor, and served two terms on the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board. He chairs the Alameda County Democratic Party and works as Strategic Partnerships Director and Senior Policy Advisor at Reimagine Power, a consultancy advocating renewable energy solutions for multifamily housing. An immigrant from Ukraine, he holds an M.S. in Engineering Management from Duke, an M.A. in Public Leadership from the University of San Francisco, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. in Political Science from UC Berkeley. He is a Democrat.
