Running for Assemblymember District 52, California Assembly District 52, in California
YIMBY Los Angeles supports Assemblymember Jessica Caloza because she ran on a strong pro-housing platform and has kept her promises in Sacramento. She voted for SB 79, the landmark bill allowing more homes near transit, despite heavy opposition in her district. She has also authored practical reforms to speed up home building. Her AB 920, signed into law in 2025, requires a centralized online application portal for housing projects, making permitting simpler and more transparent for builders. Caloza is the first Filipina American to serve in the California Legislature, and she knows that Los Angeles needs more homes so working families can afford to stay. We're proud to support her re-election.
Jessica Caloza is the Assemblymember for California's 52nd Assembly District, which includes downtown Glendale, East Los Angeles and Northeast Los Angeles neighborhoods, and is running for re-election after advancing from the June 2026 primary. Elected in November 2024 as the first Filipina elected to the California State Legislature, she serves as Assistant Majority Whip. She previously served as a Los Angeles Board of Public Works Commissioner, as deputy chief of staff to California Attorney General Rob Bonta, and as a policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Education. Born in Quezon City, Philippines, she holds a bachelor's degree from UC San Diego.
