Mark Nagales

YIMBY Action supports Mark Nagales for San Mateo County Supervisor, District 5, because he has a proven record of getting housing built in South San Francisco and a clear plan to do the same countywide. On the South San Francisco City Council, he voted for the 800-home PUC transit-oriented project despite loud opposition, and helped win a $28 million state grant to build it. Today he lives in a fourplex in the neighborhood where he grew up.

Mark Nagales is a member of the South San Francisco City Council representing District 2, first elected in 2018 and re-elected in November 2024. He served as the city's first Filipino Mayor in 2022 and has served as Vice Mayor, and before joining the council he chaired the city's Parks and Recreation Commission and Planning Commission. After graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in history and political science, he worked as an aide to state legislators and to U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier, serving as her Constituent Services Director.
