Running for City of Seattle, Council District No. 5, District 5
In regards to addressing our City's housing affordability issues, Jenks proposed detailed, actionable solutions, including: a shot-clock for building permits; streamlined permit review across departments; fully staffing the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections; pre-approved plan sets for more middle housing types; citywide rezoning; reforming Mandatory Housing Affordability; building on surplus government land; and implementing a land value tax. Needless to say, our members were thrilled to see consideration of such technical, yet impactful, approaches to implementing pro-housing policy.
Nilu Jenks is the Political and Partnerships Director at FairVote Washington. A first-generation Iranian-American, she graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Economics and Spanish. She is running for Seattle City Council District 5 in the November 2026 special election.
