Running for Assemblymember District 26, CA Assembly District 26, in California
South Bay YIMBY supports Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens because he has been a dependable pro-housing voice for Silicon Valley in Sacramento. This year he authored AB 2005, which would have made SB 9 lot splits far more workable. Owners could split their lot and sell both new homes to buyers who will live in them, instead of having to live on the property themselves. The bill was killed by the realtors' lobby, but Ahrens took on a tough fight to open up more starter-home opportunities in single-family neighborhoods. He also passed AB 1314 through the Legislature, removing barriers to transitional housing for homeless foster youth. We look forward to continuing to work with him to make the South Bay a place where more people can afford to live
Patrick Ahrens is the California State Assemblymember for District 26, covering Cupertino, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and parts of West San Jose, first elected in 2024, and is running for re-election in November 2026 after advancing from the June 2026 primary. Before joining the Assembly he was a trustee of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, first elected in 2018 and later board president, and worked as a district director in the State Assembly. The first in his family to attend college, he holds an associate degree from De Anza College, a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA, and a master's in public administration from San Jose State University.
