Running for Assemblymember District 40, CA Assembly District 40, in California
YIMBY Action endorses Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo because she keeps passing practical laws that cut the delays and hidden costs that make housing so expensive to build. Schiavo represents the Santa Clarita Valley, where families feel the cost of housing every day, and she has shown she'll do the detailed work to get more homes built.
Pilar Schiavo is the California State Assemblymember for District 40, representing the northwest San Fernando Valley, Val Verde, Castaic, and the Santa Clarita Valley, and advanced from the June 2026 primary in her bid for re-election. Elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2024, she chairs the Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. Before her election she was a nurse advocate and small business owner who worked in the labor movement for more than 20 years, and she co-founded an organization in the northwest San Fernando Valley that helped house veterans experiencing homelessness.
