Robert Garcia

YIMBY Action supports Congressman Robert Garcia because he is one of the leading pro-housing voices in Congress. He is a founding co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional YIMBY Caucus, launched in 2024 to push federal policy that helps communities build more homes and bring down costs. Before Congress, Garcia served as Mayor of Long Beach, where he saw firsthand how the housing shortage drives up rents and pushes families out. In Washington, he has kept making the case that the country needs to build more homes of every kind. Garcia understands that housing affordability is a national crisis, and we're proud to support him.

Robert Garcia is the U.S. Representative for California's 42nd Congressional District, which includes Long Beach and Southeast Los Angeles, and is running for re-election after advancing from the June 2026 primary. First elected to Congress in 2022, he serves as Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He previously served as Mayor of Long Beach from 2014 to 2022 and on the Long Beach City Council from 2009 to 2014. Garcia immigrated from Peru as a child and holds a B.A. and an Ed.D. from Cal State Long Beach and an M.A. from the University of Southern California.
