Running for Councilmember, Albany City Council, in Albany, CA
Robin is finishing his first term on the Council. He helped create Albany’s emergency rental assistance fund, removed parking minimums on new residential buildings, and voted to put Measure 0 on the ballot, which will return the authority to rezone single family areas to the City Council. A renter, he knows firsthand how hard it can be to afford to live in Albany. He supports infill housing, density, and funding for affordable and innovative housing projects.
Robin D. López has served on the Albany City Council since December 2022; his term runs through December 2026 and he is seeking another term. He served as Albany's Vice Mayor from December 2023 to December 2024 and as Mayor from December 2024 to December 2025. Raised in San Pablo and Richmond, he graduated from Contra Costa College and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from San Francisco State University, completed graduate studies in Water Resources Engineering at San José State University, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Science, Policy & Management at UC Berkeley. He worked for 10 years as a researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and served on Albany's Social and Economic Justice Commission before winning a council seat in 2022.
