Running for Councilmember, Culver City At Large, in Culver City, CA
Thomas Small is a former Culver City Councilmember whose background is in urban planning, and during his term he focused heavily on transportation policy and transit-oriented development, initiating and leading the city's Transit Oriented District Visioning process. Since leaving the council, he's deepened that expertise regionally, chairing the LA Metro Sustainability Council and sitting on SCAG's Transportation Policy Committee, while also working closely with the development community through Culver City Forward, the public-private initiative he founded to bring residents, businesses, and developers to the table on the city's future. That combination of city council experience and hands-on work with developers gives him a practical, execution-focused perspective that would serve a pro-housing council well.
Thomas Aujero Small is a candidate for Culver City Council in the November 3, 2026 general election. An urban development strategist, he was elected to the Culver City Council in 2016 and was chosen by his fellow council members to serve as mayor in 2018. He earlier served on the Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission. After his council service he founded Culver City Forward, a public-private initiative. He serves on the LA Metro Sustainability Council and on the advisory boards of the Urban Land Institute-LA and the Thomas Mann House, and holds degrees and fellowships from Yale University, Columbia University and the University of Paris.
