Housing Story
I am a direct beneficiary of YIMBY policy fought for and enacted by our friends and neighbors here in Austin, TX. When we moved to Austin from New York in 2016, restrictive zoning, parking minimums, and NIMBY community organizations had all but shut down new building in our booming city. Over the course of ten years, passionate Austinites organized, advocated, and got folks elected to turn the tide in favor of YIMBY housing and transit policy. Now we can afford to live in this beautiful, vibrant, and yes, “weird” city. A YIMBY city is a creative city where musicians and artists, waiters and researchers, teachers and tech workers can live together without the animosity that scarcity brings.
