YIMBY Action and Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY) are seeking a driven, collaborative growth marketer to help expand our membership, activist base, and small-dollar donor network in service of the national movement for abundant, affordable housing.
What we're looking for
The Associate Director of Growth Marketing will own three key organizational metrics: mailing list growth, membership growth, and small-dollar donation growth. A successful candidate will understand how to build and maintain brand consistency, develop thought leadership strategies, and design high-impact marketing campaigns that move people to action. This is a role for someone who brings strong skills and genuine curiosity — someone eager to learn how YIMBY engages with our key audiences and contribute meaningfully to our process of scaling and refining our marketing strategies/strategies.
As a department head, you will lead a small team and collaborate closely with the Chief of Staff, Executive Directors, and cross-functional partners on campaigns, public relations, and event promotions. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to take direction while shaping execution are essential to success in this role.
Responsibilities
Growth Marketing Strategy and OKR Oversight (50%)
Own and drive metric deliverables for mailing list growth, YIMBY Action membership growth, and small-dollar donation growth. Regularly report progress to the Chief of Staff and Executive Directors. Engage in data-driven strategic leadership.
Design and provide strategic direction for high-level marketing campaigns across all channels, including email, social media, paid media, website, podcast, and events. Balance brand marketing and growth marketing strategies to achieve both short- and long-term goals.
Develop and oversee the editorial calendar, ensuring content is aligned with organizational priorities, narrative themes, and campaign timing across national and chapter channels.
Iterate on and improve automated, personalized marketing strategies in response to outcomes, data, and evolving political opportunities. Incorporate new ideas from leadership and respond quickly to a dynamic environment.
Manage a budget to achieve organizational goals through paid advertising, branded materials, and targeted campaigns with an emphasis on priority geographies.
Brand, Narrative, and Thought Leadership (25%)
Maintain brand and narrative consistency across national and chapter marketing channels. Collaborate with Department Heads and Executive Directors to develop and refine YIMBY’s key messages and communications framework.
Develop and execute thought leadership strategy, identifying key organizational voices and platforms to increase brand visibility and external influence.
Partner with the Chief of Staff and Executive Directors to support media coverage opportunities. Manage a network of public relations contractors to execute press releases and PR support across YIMBY and YIMBY Action.
Oversee systems to track media mentions and housing narratives for YIMBY, YIMBY Action, and local chapters. Use insights to refine messaging and identify high-ROI marketing opportunities.
Department Leadership (20%)
Serve as department head for the Marketing Department. Manage and develop Marketing Department staff, setting clear expectations and supporting high performance in executing strategy and achieving OKRs.
Lead and delegate cross-functional collaboration efforts, including campaigns, projects, and org-wide priorities that require Marketing Department involvement.
Collaborate with organizational leadership during annual strategic planning. Select OKRs and metrics that align with organizational objectives and set ambitious, achievable team goals.
Serve as an organizational leader: represent the Marketing Team in organizational decision-making, model inclusive culture, and help build buy-in for key marketing initiatives across teams.
Special Projects (5%)
Occasional initiatives that deliver on program service, donor expectations, chapter growth, professional development, and/or team culture.
